The University of Johannesburg Library, in collaboration with the Association of Commonwealth Universities and The South Africa National Convention Bureau (SANCB), will host its annual conference on the 12 & 13 September, 2023.
The theme is Imagining Sustainability – The Future of Academic Libraries depends on everyone.
How can Libraries effectively craft a footprint into the future using a ‘sustainable thinking’ approach?
‘Sustainable Thinking’ is an idea that aligns with the vision and mission statements of the majority of libraries. Libraries are essential in creating community awareness and teaching them about resilience and a sustainable future.
The UJ International Conference will be something different in 2023.
The two days will offer great speakers and entertainment and will be open to academic, public, school, and special Libraries to attend.
Day 1 will be an Open Day with Library sponsors and suppliers, stalls and workshops.
Day 2 will be a complete Programme with robust conversations and excellent national and International Speakers. (Hybrid format).
The conversations will focus on the following:
1) showcasing sustainable building techniques and services
2) promoting understanding and action surrounding sustainability in their respective communities
3) supporting, encouraging and showcasing new sustainability research.
At the two-day conference, attendees will learn more about the world of Imagining Sustainability, enabling them to make an informed choice regarding the future of Libraries.
This popular annual event will focus on how Libraries and stakeholders can work together with commitment, respect and understanding to stay relevant and adjust to society’s needs.

The ACU is an international organisation dedicated to bringing universities together to find solutions to global challenges. International collaboration is central to this ambition. Universities are the key to healthier, greener, fairer societies. None of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved without the contribution of higher education – through research, innovation, education, and community engagement.
The ACU champions higher education as a cornerstone of stronger societies, supporting its members, partners, and stakeholders as they adapt to a changing world. Visit www.acu.ac.uk and follow @The_ACU.
The Supporting Research Community is for all staff at ACU member universities who are involved in supporting the research process, including research management and administration, library services and researchers. The community creates a space for colleagues from across the Commonwealth to share knowledge, experience and good practice, keep up-to-date with the latest trends and opportunities, discuss issues and solutions, showcase the work of their team and university, and discover potential avenues for collaboration. The community also has a grant scheme. Find out more and join the community.
